Call Me Kuchu (2013) Movie Synopsis:In Uganda, religious groups are trying to pass an anti-homosexuality bill that calls for imprisonment of homosexuals and, in severe cases, the death penalty. Here, we meet David Kato, Uganda's first openly gay activist. While he lives in constant fear of attack, his life is also characterized by moments of happiness and celebration. As hate-filled tirades of Christian fanatics fill the air, we meet Bishop Christopher Senyonjo, the only cleric who positions himself on the side of the gay community and offers them his protection from attacks. Things take a tragic turn when David Kato is found dead in his bed having been bludgeoned to death. When at Kato's funeral the parson begins to preach hate speak, Senyonjo once again steps in to give Kato his last rites and assuage the activist's mourners.
